Cadell first visited the Inner Hebridean island of Iona in 1912, and from 1913 onwards it was his regular destination for the summer painting season, and a second home. It was an emotive place for anyone interested in Scottish History but, initially, it's attraction for Cadell was the light and colour. The combination of turquoise green seas and pure white sands continually transformed by the North Atlantic winds provided Cadell with a constantly changing landscape. It was in Iona that Cadell lived his fuller life as an artist, spending all his time capturing the beauty of these white beaches and green seas with masterful spontaneity.

This view is of Lunga, on the left-hand side, with some of the smaller Treshnish Islands to the right.
