During the summers spent in France, Peploe and Fergusson made regular trips to the fashionable coastal resorts of Paris Plage, Dieppe and Etaples and would often set up easel side by side painting the same views. It was on one of these trips with Peploe that Fergusson visited St Palais-sur-Mer, first in 1910 and again the following year.
