This work was painted whilst Hunter was in the South of France. In late 1926 Hunter moved to the South of France staying there until 1929. This painting is very redolent of Cezannes late structural still lifes. The post impressionist influences are clearly visible in the balance between Jug, glass, fruit and bowl and the solid portrayal of the white cloth, gives the impression of a tangible laundered starchiness.
