Born in London Damian initially trained as a scientist in Cardiff and then taught at the Garvald Centre in Edinburgh, where he worked with people with learning disabilities. After eight years teaching he then went on to study Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art.
Damian won art scholarships to Prague, Toulouse and Tuscany and was artist-in-residence at Liberton Hospital in Edinburgh. He taught at the Edinburgh College of Art until 2005 and is now part-time lecturer at Leith School of Art & The National Galleries of Scotland, dedicating his remaining time to his own paintings.
Damian is particularly interested in the moving figure, especially athletes, swimmers and gymnasts and frequently uses his four children as models for his paintings.
